Halloween is just round the corner and time is running out for making your plans and arrangements for Halloween decorations. Whether you want to decorate your porch or backyard or your hall where you’re planning to set up the Halloween party, you actually do not need to spend a fortune on decorations. You can be little creative and set up a spooky scene with the help of different ornaments specially designed for Halloween, creepy candles and a wide range of eerie centerpieces.

This year however, the expenses on <a href="http://www.123newyear.com/halloween/halloween-decoration/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >Halloween party decorations and celebrations would be less as compared to previous years due to the economic slowdown. More and more Americans this year would be making use of the Halloween decoration from the last year rather than buy new one. It has been estimated that on an average this year $23.68 would be spent on decorations by the individual household.

For <a href="http://www.123newyear.com/halloween/halloween-decoration/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >Halloween decoration ideas you can add few spider webs available in the stores on your decorations which will bring a spooky effect to your Halloween.

You may also consider adding a tree in your home or on the yard to bring about a festive mood to the decorations.

To enhance the dilapidated and deserted look to your Halloween decorations, gather some old, torn, tattered and shredded clothes that you can easily buy from stores found during Halloween.

Make use of some eerie door frames to change the look your front door. These frames would add up to the spooky effect to your Halloween decorations.

Get some scarecrows as they augment the scary effect to the Halloween decorations. Put a few on the front porch and backyard as well as some on the hall where you have arranged for the party.

Another great idea would be to place lighted jack-o-lantern all the way on your front porch. You can bring some plastic jack-o-lantern available with the retailers and light them with candles powered by battery.

Hanging Halloween flags and banners that are available at the time of Halloween will make your Halloween spooktacular.

Give more touch of nature to your <a href="http://www.123newyear.com/halloween/halloween-decoration/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >Halloween decorations by including objects such as haystacks for decorating the outside porch, cornstalks as well as scarecrows filled with straws. Try using more of the autumn colors in your decorations like shades of orange, gold and brown. You may also consider using natural fragrance like vanilla or sandalwood or cinnamon on the candles that you have placed for decorations.

With Halloween right around the corner many people will almost certainly soon be scrambling for ideas for a “good costume”. Of course, something completely original is always great, but so are the classics. Here is a countdown of the top costumes ideas for October of 2009.

The top ten most popular (based on online chatter) adult Halloween costumes are:

10. A Vampire

9. An Angel

8. A Witch

7. A Dog

6. A Doctor

5. A Cat

4. A Cheerleader

3. A Pirate

2. Michael Jackson

…and the most popular Adult Halloween Costume for 2009 is…

1. A Princess

Not quite making the top ten were a devil, a police officer, a nurse, the grim reaper, a ghost, a clown, a bunny, President George W. Bush, a zombie, a ho, President Barack Obama, a school girl, a french maid, a pimp, a wench, a firefighter, and a mime.

So it looks like the classics – a princess, a pirate, a witch, and angel, and a vampire have reamined strong. It isn’t too surprising that Michael Jackson did so well considering his recent tragic death. I was surprised that a President Obama costume didn’t make the top ten given his popularity. I was also surprised that a doctor did make the top 10 while a nurse did not. I must admin to being relieved that neither a clown or mime made the top 10. I am also relieved to see that the whole “Pimp and Ho” craze seems to be dying out.

I compiled this list by searching for each of the costumes on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online.

A Halloween party can be ghoulishly fun, regardless of whether you’re the host or attendee. As quick and unique party decorations go, painted pumpkin Halloween party favors are a big hit.

In preparations for the party, go to your nearest pumpkin patch or stores where readily available and select an adequate amount of small pumpkins that are about the same size. Bring them home and enlist the help of family and friends to help you decorate them. This can be as much fun as the party itself.

Patterns and designs can come from just about anywhere. Your child may find something they want to paint from a coloring book, a photograph from a magazine or even the cartoon page from the newspaper. You just need to trace the design onto the clean surface of a pumpkin and start to fill in the blanks.

Colorful markers and arts & crafts paint work wonders. If you paint all the mini-pumpkins with the same design or pattern you’ll have them done in no time at all.

Small pumpkins painted with scary bats or ghosts would make wonderful party favors for your guests to take home. A painted pumpkin lasts quite a while and when the guest sees the pumpkin they’ll have fond memories of attending your party.

Your menu can be theme oriented as well. Maybe try serving as many items as you can that contain pumpkin as the main ingredient. You could service Pumpkin Muffins, Pumpkin Cookies or Pumpkin Soup. Here’s a great Pumpkin Punch to serve your guests:

Ingredients:

1 cup Canned pumpkin
1 cup Brown sugar
1 tsp. Ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Ground ginger
1/2 tsp. Ground nutmeg
1/2 Cup Orange Juice
4 Cups Vanilla Ice Cream
Cleaned-out pumpkin shell, chilled (optional)

Directions:

Blend all ingredients in the blender until smooth. Serve immediately. Pour into chilled pumpkin shell for serving if you wish.

Halloween is one of America’s favorite holidays. Many people in the United States throw big Halloween parties at the end of October and invite their friends and family over for a night of frightful fun! If you are planning a Halloween party at your home this fall you want to be sure that all of your invited friends attend. The old saying ‘The more the merrier’ certainly applies to Halloween parties! People come dressed in costumes to have a night of great fun and spooky surprises. The streets are abuzz outside with ghosts and goblins running gleefully house to house, collecting their treasured treats. Halloween parties are loads of fun for people of all ages, so be sure not to leave anyone off of your guest list!

By sending Halloween invitations that are exclusive and highly unique, you will not only delight your friends but more of them are likely to show up for the party.

The internet is a wonderful source for locating great Halloween party invitations. You can find themes that include black cats, goblins, flying black bats, witches, skeletons, skulls, pumpkins and spooky trees, just to name a few. Finding these websites are simple. All that you need to do is run a simple search by typing in a search term such as ‘holiday card‘ or something along those lines into the search box of one of the bigger search engines. You will quickly be presented with a decent listing of cards that you can buy online. Try to select fun Halloween party invitations to get your guests screaming to attend!

Halloween is really all about dressing up and pretending to be someone else for a night. People come dressed in a wide variety of ways-some come dressed as their favorite politician and many arrive wearing a full disguise to keep everyone guessing who is behind the mask. The best Halloween parties are the ones in which all of the guests wear costumes. Once you have purchased the invites for the party, be sure to specify on the invitations that you wish to have everyone come dressed in costume, assuming that you do. If you think back on all of the Halloween parties you attended in your life, it is very likely that the best memories are from the parties where costumes were mandatory.

If you are helping your kids plan a children’s Halloween party, you can have a lot of fun helping your children make their own Halloween invitations. Using orange and black construction paper, a pair of scissors and some glue, you can have the kids cut the cards into the shapes of jack-o-lanterns and scary black bats and cats. Using sequins for the facial features, write the invitations on the card and send them away in the mail! It is very easy and tons of fun for both you and your kids!

At this point, you are perhaps already thinking of a possible funny costume you can wear to a Halloween party you intend to attend. Some would just settle for the cliche type costumes like Superman, Batman and Cat Woman.

Meanwhile, some really want to think of hilarious Halloween costume ideas that can help them stand out. Costumes are important in this kind of party, and it is understandable why many prepare for this ahead of time.

If you are already tired of the conventional characters you see each year at Halloween parties, you can always think of something that is not normally seen. Or if you plainly want to break the ice at the party you are going to attend, you can try wearing funny costumes that would leave everyone laughing out loud when they see you.

It might take a lot of courage to execute hilarious Halloween costume ideas, but it will be rewarding in the end. Instead of attending the party in a character of a mummy or zombie, try going there with you in a Barney costume. Now, that is really funny. You can also emulate the gestures of the character to entertain the guests.

Halloween parties should never be too monotonous and dull. Bring something new each year by trying never worn before costumes. However, make sure that you will appear funny rather than silly. Do not force yourself if one funny character does not really fit your personality. Instead of making the other guests to laugh, they might just get annoyed. So think carefully before implementing your plan.

For many of us the Christmas tree represents that special time of the year and while the trees itself symbolizes the event, the actual choosing of a tree, decorating of a tree and gathering around the tree are great special family moments. While the tree itself will perhaps not be remembered exactly by the time you are at next Christmas, the happiness shared around the tree will most certainly remain with you.

There are various options of trees to choose from and the types of tress and the way they are decorated vary differently from country to country. There are real potted Christmas trees of many varieties as well as imitation trees. For many, myself included, the real potted Christmas tree is the preference as the smell of the tree combined with the feeling of the tree itself has a much more emotional response.

Whether you choose a potted Christmas tree or have a Christmas tree stand for your tree you need to make sure that both the pot or the stand are up to the task of holding your tree in the right position for the entire period of the holidays.

Some Christmas trees will be able to be purchased with Christmas tree stands, other types of tree stands can be designed at home taking advantage of what you have on hand to make sure the tree is staying where it should be. I can recall many years ago a very basic Christmas tree stand that we made with two concrete blocks which we, the children, decorated with Christmas paper. This was a very rudimentary Christmas tree stand but it did last the duration of the holiday period and therefore was adequate.

As well as the types of trees the way we decorate has huge variations. A lot of the decorative options relate to personal choice or style. There is no right or wrong way to decorate a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_tree"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title=" Christmas tree "> Christmas tree , and the more fun and sharing a family has together in this process can often make the event more special. Even if perhaps the end result is less than the optimal vision of style at your home during Christmas.

For decorating the <a href="http://www.scottishchristmastrees.co.uk/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title=" Xmas tree "> Xmas tree there are a variety of ornaments available, from those that you purchase through to the hand made options. Many trees are topped with stars or angels. You will often find there are beautiful glass balls or special Christmas themed ornaments used as well. In addition to these we have tinsel, streamers, popcorn, <a href="http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Food/Confectionery/Candy/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title=" candy cane "> candy cane and of course many more. Children can assist not only in the decoration of the tree itself but in the making of the decorations. They can design shapes and images coated with all manner of glitter or special papers to give the twinkling effect when completed and put on the tree.

The types of Christmas tree lights available now are in themselves giving a great decorative choice. Coming in all range of sizes, colors and lengths and they make a great display in the evenings, especially when combined with your sparkling reflective ornaments. These Christmas tree lights also can be used around the room or the house to add a little more color and light to the Christmas period.

Choices of tree decoration are almost limitless. If you look around during the Christmas holidays at other peoples Christmas trees, you will find that each tree is decorated differently from the next. So your Christmas tree, however you decorate it will be individual, the amount of time and energy you spend in decorating will not necessarily be reflected in the final product and the experience of the process should be something to concentrate on rather than final results.

So whether you have a potted Christmas Tree, a home made or purchased Christmas tree stand or you go with the more untraditional imitation tree, make sure you get the most entertainment you can from the decoration process with your family. Remember Christmas is only once a year, make the most of it.

Sometimes you don’t get to see all of your loved ones during the holidays. That doesn’t mean you can’t include them in your Christmas gift giving. Mailing gifts has become increasingly more common, but you must take the proper precautions so your gift arrives safely.

Choosing the right container

The first step in shipping your gift is choosing the proper packaging. There are several container options:

Boxes

Padded bags

Large envelopes

Tubes

The container you select should have enough room for your gift and adequate padding, but not so large that the gift rattles or shifts. If you are sending liquids, you should first place the item in a leak proof container and then double box it. Books ship nicely in padded envelopes, and posters in special poster tubes. For most purposes, a sturdy cardboard box is the best option.

Protecting the gift

One of the biggest fears in mailing a gift is that it will arrive in pieces. Protecting your gift with appropriate cushioning can easily prevent this. Giving your gift padding distributes and helps absorb shock and keeps the gift from shifting. Cushioning options can be purchased at your local shipping supply store, or sometimes found around your home:

Packing paper

Newspaper

Plastic bubble wrap

Air bubbles

Styrofoam peanuts

If your gift is very fragile, take extra care in wrapping it. First, wrap the gift in a generous amount of bubble wrap. Then, layer any cushioning material you want to surround the bubble-wrapped gift in a box. It is best to avoid mailing breakable items, but it can be done when packaged properly.

Insurance or no insurance?

You should purchase insurance for your package if its monetary value is high or if your package is very fragile and you are concerned about it arriving in one piece. Shipping insurance covers the value of your package’s contents, and includes delivery confirmation. Contrary to popular belief, Postal Services do not take extra special care in tending to insured packages. However, shipping insurance does give you peace of mind and insures your gift will be replaced if destroyed during transit. To find out more about shipping insurance, see the United States Postal Service (usps.com).

Wrapping the gift

Some people skip over the gift wrapping when they mail their gifts. Just because you aren’t delivering the gift in person doesn’t mean you don’t have to wrap it. Your gift should be gift-wrapped and then placed inside your shipping box. If you skip over the wrapping, your Christmas gift becomes a mere package. It is more fun to open a colorfully wrapped gift box than a plain, brown shipping box. You may even want to include a note from Santa, instructing the recipient NOT to open the gift until Christmas day.

When to send the gift

If you include instructions from you (or Santa) to the gift recipient that encourages him or her to restrain from opening your package until Christmas day, then you can mail your gift as early as you would like. Postal Service’s busiest day of the year is usually the week before Christmas. Mailing your gift extra early may allow you to avoid long lines at the post office. You can expect your gift to arrive within five days when mailed via Parcel Post. Priority Mail speeds that time up to two or three days, and there are overnight options (but they are costly). Make sure you send your gift early enough to arrive in time for the holiday. There will be less waiting on both ends – your recipient will retrieve the gift sooner, and you won’t have to wait as long in the dreaded Christmas postal line with all the other procrastinators.

The Christmas wreath is as popular today as it was when it was first introduced to the world. People take great pains to make these beautiful Christmas decorations but most people have no idea just how far back the tradition of the wreath really goes. It goes back to Pagan times and the ancient culture of the Persian Empire. The wreath that was hung on the doors of the family homes during this time was actually a symbol of wealth and importance. Granted, the wreaths of the Persian Empire were smaller than the ones that hang on doors today. As a matter of fact, they were worn on the head and were encrusted with jewels. The Greeks made wreaths of laurel that were placed on the heads of winning athletes during the Olympic Games.

This tradition was continued by the Romans and they were worn on the heads of leaders, such as Julius Caesar. Eventually they moved from headgear to wall and door decorations, possibly as a souvenir of the athlete’s victory. It is believed that this is how the tradition of hanging them on the wall was born. From here the tradition of hanging a wreath made of evergreen was started and it moved into Eastern Europe. The wreath was decorated with candles and lit during the cold winter evening in order to help rush in spring and the good weather.

The Christmas wreath tradition moved from pagan traditions to a Christian tradition, typically used by the Catholics. The wreath was hung up during Advent and they usually had four candles in the middle of the evergreen circle. The wreath today is a circle, signifying that it had no beginning and no end and is considered in the Christian religion a symbol of God and eternity. The candles in the wreath were traditionally white or three violets and one rose. Each candle was lit everyday with the exception of the middle candle which was not lit until Christmas Eve. They were usually lit right before dinner.

The Christmas wreath is quite often made of evergreen boughs of holly and they can be real or artificial. While an artificial wreath will last considerably longer, they don’t have the same smell as a fresh wreath when made of real pine and other items. It can be decorated today with traditional items, such as pine cones, fruits, berries, lace and ribbon or it can be made with more modern materials for a different look.

Whether you hand make a <a href="http://www.acadiawreath.com"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title="Christmas Wreath">Christmas wreath or buy one from the store it is important to remember how the wreath got its start and to reflect upon what it means to you and your family. These holiday decorations are a joy to behold on every door and make your home look warm and inviting no matter how you decorate it.

Christmas is the most celebrated holiday in the world and it is the one holiday that carries with it a slew of traditions that people the world over hold dear. The cutting of the Christmas tree, hanging decorations and special food preparation are all a part of this very special time of the year.

The sending and receiving of Christmas cards is a holiday tradition that unfortunately many people no longer take part in. Since the widespread phenomenon of electronic communication, many of us choose to send our December greetings by email. The truth is that most people love to receive a Christmas card the old fashioned way-through the mail. Nothing can compare to opening that envelope and finding a lovely hand signed Christmas cards. An e-card or a email is quickly discarded and does not really tell those people you care about that you took much time at all in sending it. On the other hand, when someone you know receives a card from you in the mail, this shows that you have indeed set some time aside in your busy life to send along a small gift that really means something.

If you would like to truly make your friends and family happy this upcoming Christmas season, why not consider sending out some Christmas photo cards? It is really quite easy to do as you only need to choose one of your favorite family photos and have it made into a holiday card. There are many businesses online that do nothing except create custom cards of all types. You can easily select a template for your holiday cards or Christmas invitations if you are throwing a party, the choose the message you wish to have printed on the card. The cards will then be mailed to you so that you can address, sign and mail them out to the people you care for. It could not be easier.

Sending a Christmas card is a terrific way to stay in touch with friends, family, colleagues and business associates. Holiday cards are the ideal way to let people know that you care and shows that you have not forgotten them. Christmas cards are a symbolic way of showing those you care about or have come into contact with they they have brought meaning in some way to your life.

<a href="http://googleadservices.us/link/childrens_halloween_costumes/1.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >

Finding childrens Halloween costumes online is much easier than it used to be with the proliferation of those easy to navigate online stores that are all vying for your custom. This has the added benefit that because they are all in competition with one another, the prices are kept low as each tries to out-do their competition by offering the best prices or bonuses such as free delivery within a certain radius of the physical store, or special coupons that can be redeemed against future purchases.

As for choice, the sky seems to be the limit these days. In the days when my own kids were going out for trick or treat, they wore pretty basic costumes that were home made because, lets face it, in those days money was not as easy to come by and was certainly not for squandering on outfits that probably would only be worn two or three times ever. As the kids grew up so fast, they’d grow out of the costumes so new ones would have to be made.

These days, it seems that parents are quite ok about spending cash on Halloween costumes for their children. So if they’re going to but the outfits, they may as well be good ones!

What’s the Choice in Children’s Halloween Costumes?

Some of the childrens Halloween costumes that are available in the stores today are little short of truly amazing. There are of course the traditional witches and warlock outfits still favored by a large number of kids, or at least their parents! But now you can add a kaleidoscope of variations on that theme with devils, elves, fairies, goblins, trolls (yes, even Shrek).

For boys, there are some of the more popular super heroes outfits like Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Mr Incredible, Star Wars characters, with Darth Vader still one of the most popular, Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Zorro, Prince Caspian etc.

For girls the choice is less all-action and more geared towards the more feminine heroines and storybook characters such as Sleeping Beauty, (Romeo and) Juliet, Snow White, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, little Mermaid, Shrek Princess etc although there are still some that want to wear Wonder Woman and Xena outfits!

There are costumes of characters from Toy Story, Wonder Pets, Pirates of the Caribbean, the list goes on and on. In fact chances are if there was a popular kids movie with great characters, then the costume makers have already got it covered! The great thing for the industry itself is of course that new movies are coming out all the time, so whatever was the big favorite last month has been replaced by something else this month.

One thing you can be sure of is that whatever your kids are going to be wearing this trick or treat, they will want a completely new outfit from what they wore last year! Good luck and happy costume hunting.
