Great Christmas Cards: The Do’s and Don’ts

In this article, we’ll examine the various approaches you can take when selecting and creating your Christmas cards.  From blank Christmas cards to personalized photo Christmas Cards, you have many options.  You also can create Christmas cards yourself, but you run the risk of doing it wrong.  Find out why below!

The Holidays are supposed to be the best time of the year for all of us.  However, between buying Christmas Gifts and getting the house ready for the family, it can be downright stressful.  One of the most stressful endeavors of all of these is getting your Christmas Cards together and out the door on time.

This is one you cannot wait on.  Do not wait until the last days to do your Christmas cards because it can absolutely ruin your Christmas holidays and leave you in a world of stress.

Fortunately, we are no longer subject to the lengthy process of yesteryear in which we had to write every single Christmas Card and manually post a picture inside.  We have many options.  Places like The Christmas Cards Store offer several options including Photo Christmas cards and personalized Christmas cards.

These offerings allow us to pre-order Christmas Cards with a picture of our family already included.  We no longer even need to send in a picture–it can all be done with our digital photographs.  Additionally, we can have a pre-written greeting message inside the cards.  The amount of time this saves can truly be appreciated if you have had to do Christmas cards manually in the past.

However, all of these Christmas cards need to be pre-ordered.  Thus, it is important to pre-order your Christmas cards well before the Holiday Season.  Even if you opt to buy blank Christmas cards in which you will write a message, it is important to start the process early so that you can get them out in time with little stress.

If you are one who likes to “brave it on your own”, you may be considering creating your very own specially-brewed Christmas cards.

I will tell you this.  When you go it on your own and create your own Christmas cards, people will either love your Christmas card…or they will hate it!

My favorite Christmas cards every year are those that are self-created!  Why?  Because you never no what you are going to get.  Like when a comedian goes on stage, sometimes he scores with the audience and other times he fails miserably.  Such is the fate of self-created Christmas cards.

The one cardinal sin of the self-created Christmas card is the “my family is better than your family” card.  You know exactly of what I speak.  These cards usually say something along the lines of “John just got his second Masters degree from Harvard this spring and has met a beautiful Alpha Chi Omega who is getting her doctorate in advanced foreign language studies…They plan to marry in the fall.”

The best self-created Christmas cards are those that are self-effacing.  Even if the people note what they did during the year, they do it in a funny self-deprecating manner.  These are usually the best Christmas cards.

For me, I like to put on the best Christmas music, light a candle, and write a personalized note to my friends in my pre-created, personalized photo Christmas cards.

However you create your Christmas cards this year, remember to begin early and avoid a stressful time during the height of the Holiday season!

Halloween Bingo for Kids

Halloween, which falls on October 31st is a holiday associated with scary and ghost stories, witches costume parties, Halloween games, and, of course, trick-or-treating. The holiday has its roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian All Saints’ Day – but today has really become a secular celebration.

In schools and community groups, as well as in family gatherings, it is common to decorate appropriate, and then organise a variety of activities around Halloween. Of course, we are all familiar with things like dressing up and telling ghost stories, but other other activity that you might not have considered, is playing the game of Halloween bingo.

Halloween bingo is played almost exactly like a standard game of bingo, but instead of using bingo cards containing numbers, you play using bingo cards printed with words or phrases relating to Halloween, for example, words such as “ghost”, “ghoul”, “pumpkin” or “witch”. Just like normal bingo, Halloween bingo is very easy to play, and even somebody who has never encountered the game before can quickly learn the rules. Of course, if you’re playing with your kids, you will want to give the winners candies as their reward, but since it’s Halloween, why not ask them to tell a scary story before they get their candy?

If you are concerned about how to obtain Halloween-themed bingo cards, don’t worry, this is actually one of the easy parts. You can download free printables for Halloween bingo from the Internet, or if you prefer, you can download bingo card maker software which lets you print custom bingo cards on almost any theme you like.

No Christmas party supplies are considered complete without the Christmas cracker

When planning for Christmas in the UK, few households leave out the tradition of the Christmas cracker. A tube of cardboard wrapped in decorative paper, it’s designed to be pulled open by two people resulting in a bang that releases the gifts inside the tube. The jokes found inside the tube are also part of the tradition, most often they are older jokes that have been used since about the time Christmas crackers first became popular.

The party supplies that are typically found in a Christmas cracker would include items like jokes, snaps, small toys and paper hats that are either divided between the two pullers or given to the puller with the larger section of the tube. There are more expensive crackers available which hold deluxe gifts such as key chains. This and the loud pop they make as they open appeal especially to children who are usually the ones who open the Christmas cracker.

A simple enough party favor, the cracker has been a tradition in the UK since it was used to mark special events by the sons of bonbon baker Tom Smith. He invented them in the late 19th century to better market his bonbons which were the original favor inside. Baker is said to have invented them in the middle of a slump in candy sales after hearing the pop of wood in his fire. His sons made them popular by using them at events like the opening of new stores and businesses, marketing a much larger version toe the original tubes to families in the early 20th century. Today they are offered by several party supplies shops for most holidays and other momentous occasions in multiple countries in Europe.

In recent years the Christmas cracker has become one of the newer party supplies sought after in the Unites States as well. As a result many consumers go on the internet to seek out party supplies stores to get them in shipped overseas. Christmas crackers come in several colors and patterns to make them accessible for multiple tastes and interests. There are also kits available to make your own Christmas crackers at home adding to the fun of this party favor for adults and children alike. The fun and silly prizes found inside crackers are sure to add to the fun of any event they’re made a part of, which is part of why they continue to be popular today. One of several noise makers available for parties Christmas crackers add another element to the gift giving season that transcends time and culture.

There are also several other uses for crackers if you so choose. They can be stuffed with anything small enough to fit into the tube and so as a result they’ve also been sued for invitations, advertisements and promotional items. They can also be used to decorate the family Christmas tree, another item that can be used as a stocking stuffer and it can be a great way to great guests or visiting relatives at the door.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a Christmas cracker! Don’t forget to buy your stock of crackers and other party supplies well in advance so that you are not disappointed as stocks do tend to run out fast nearer Christmas.

Prelit Artificial Christmas Tree: The Season For Colors

There’s something to be said about the traditional Christmas tree. Finding one usually require a mini-ritual when the holidays come around. For those who live in the cities, we accompany our parents to the Christmas tree lot and pick that one tree that we will use for that season. The lucky ones get to go in the forest somewhere and chop up a tree instead of buying one.

Well, just like anything else, there are issues with always using traditional trees. For one, not everybody has a truck car to haul these trees. Not to mention that we could be in the middle of a financial crunch that holiday season, so having to buy a Christmas tree can strain the pocket.

Additionally, there are times when a traditional tree simply does not capture the season for us. Lo and behold comes a product of western ingenuity, the artificial Christmas tree. These manufactured wonders can really come to the rescue. They are creative and flexible at the same time. Think of it as the “ace in the hole”. If you have an artificial Christmas tree in storage, you can never have a stressful time hunting for a tree at the last minute if you choose not to. As many of us have experienced in the past, last minute Christmas crowd can be very discouraging. Lastly, if you own a prelit artificial christmas tree, you won’t have to go without a tree during any Christmas season simply because money is tight. Just pull the tree out of storage and you’re good to go.

STYLING WITH A PRELIT ARTIFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREE

What’s great about artificial Christmas trees is the creativity behind various designs. Artificial Christmas trees can give you traditional or non-traditional look. It can be sized for tabletops or as tall as a living room. And also, it can come in a color you haven’t even thought of for a tree. Let’s look at a few popular styles:

PINK ARTIFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREES

This one has been very popular. A pink artificial Christmas tree is something I would never even thought of, but perhaps if you have a little girl in your life, daughter or granddaughter, it will make sense. Girls like anything pink. That’s a given. A pink Christmas tree will be a tough to decorate for many of us. But encourage the girls to do so, and they’ll more than satisfy you. Just think, decorating a pink artificial Christmas tree can become a yearly family event for your little princess throughout the years as she grows up.

RED ARTIFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREES

Red is a Christmas color. Why isn’t it a Christmas tree color? The simple answer is that trees are not red. And that’s another reason for buying an artificial Christmas tree. You can have any color including red. The color red draws attention. But a red Christmas tree demands attention. Anytime a guest walks into your family room, a red artificial christmas tree will greet them with cheerful tidngs.

ARTIFICIAL FIR CHRISTMAS TREE

Ever ask why the traditional Christmas tree is a triangle shape with green color? It comes from the fir tree that cropped up from a fallen oak that St. Boniface cleaved to convert German pagans to Christianity. The fir tree had a triangle shape symbolizing the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) with evergreen leaves that stay green through different seasons and represent eternal life.

Accordingly, among the artificial Christmas trees, one of the more popular type is the artificial fir Christmas tree. From within the fir tree type, there are subselections as well, such as Fraser, Noble, Camdon, Everbrite, Carolina, Montana, Spruce, and Pine Cone. These trees are so realistic that they’re visually tough to distinguish from real trees.

SAFETY CONCERNS

One last note on artificial Christmas trees, over the past years, American families are choosing artifical Christmas trees over real trees. If you have any concern of their use, then you’ll be glad to know that today’s artificial trees are made with flame-resistant materials. This bit of information is helpful since Christmas trees are often decorated with electrical accessories such as Christmas lights. Prelit artificial Christmas trees are among the most popular type out there.
